Trip to the Coast: Bush Babies, Vervet monkeys, milkshakes, a tuk-tuk, and a full moon rising

Bush Babies (formal name is Galago) are cute, small, nocturnal primates native to Africa

They know they can get small pieces of bananas every evening at 7pm at the Stilt Tree Houses

Everywhere we went at the Coast, we saw monkeys (these are Vervets)

Throughout their stay in Kenya, the kids enjoyed a LOT of milkshakes :)

Squeezing into the back seat of a tuk-tuk (a 3-wheel vehicle for short trips)

Tony squeezed in the front with the driver

Hanging out at Stilts, where we slept in a treehouse

One evening we watched the full moon rise, while enjoying dinner at Forty Thieves

Trip to the Coast: Faraja Children's Home

All my life, I've loved to swing. Needless to say, I was happy to find one at the children's home!

Aaliyah and Mia taught the kids 'duck, duck, goose', but changed it to 'ngombe, ngombe, kuku' (cow, cow, chicken)

Taking photos of one another is an instant ice-breaker, guaranteed to bring lots of laughter!

Maxwell had just started living at the children's home recently. Since arriving he had a difficult time adjusting to all the new people and situations. Naomi's heart went out to him... and eventually she got him to smile :)

Trip to the Coast: Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary and Diani Beachalets

Looking for wildlife and taking photos of flowers, Mwaluganje Elephant Sanctuary

“We need the tonic of wildness, to explore and learn all things mysterious, that land and sea be indefinitely wild and unfathomed. We can never have enough of nature.”
~ Henry David Thoreau

Hanging out at our cottage

Fish monger cuts up a freshly-caught salmon...

... and also freshly-caught white snapper

Rajam was an expert getting the fish fillets ready!

Hassan prepared delicious seafood dinners for us on two evenings.

Shortly after this photo was taken, we quickly moved everything into our cottage to avoid the marauding monkeys!

Trip to the Coast: Diani Beach, at the Indian Ocean

Beautiful Diani Beach, on Kenya's South Coast

Playing with wet sand, such simple joy

Tony was curious about the various miniature sand crabs on the beach

One of the varieties of tiny, little sand crabs scurrying around the beach

The kids spent hours and hours in the ocean and on the beach, absolutely loving it!

Nairobi activities: Nairobi National Park game drive

We enjoyed our very memorable game drive!

Impala

Scanning the park for wildlife

Naomi spotted this rhino running very near us

We were all excited to see (and hear) a lioness!

While our van was stuck, we spotted a Serval Cat and a Cape Buffalo ran toward us!

After several others tried to help us, with no luck, a KWS road grader succeeded!

Meanwhile we got acquainted with some friendly KWS rangers...
... and assisted a research group that's tracking the lions in the park

Lots of zebra!

Giraffe

Still scanning the park for wildlife

We had a fun adventure in the park! Maxwell, our driver, did a great job.
